So it’s this time of the year again where writers all over set out to write however much they want to over a months period in Camp Nanowrimo! One thing I sadly have never completely successfully… (the fact that this post initially crashed my WordPress app just as I was beginning to write this so I had to start over better not be an omen).

I have probably set out and tried to do a nano project about 10 different times… seriously over 10. The largest number of words I ever completed was 5,000 words… only 5,000… however I keep trying (why you ask? Maybe I’m just a gluten for punishment who knows?).

What is going to make this time any different from my previous attempts? For one thing I created a new Camp Nano account so that I could start everything over fresh without looking at previous failed attempts. Hopefully with nothing of the past to look at I can create a future of successes into the rest of my Nano career.

This time, I am aiming for 25,000 words so that I can ease into writing instead of bulldozering into it, like I usually would by going for 50,000. I could always write as if I’m going for the 50k, but this way if I don’t actually reach it I know I will have a very substantial amount of writing to be proud of regarding my WIP.

The current novel I am going for is a Dragon Soulmate novel featuring a healthy relationship that doesn’t have the possessiveness I usually find when I read soul mate novels (something I have grown to be very frustrated with). There isn’t really anything special about this novel other then the fact that I want to have something to read in the universe that shows a slower paced healthy relationship and since I haven’t be able to find it out in the real world I might as well be the one to write it.

Anywho, there is obviously more to my WIP then that, but for now I’m leaving it to be a mystery. I hope to stay positive and give this a serious go. Who knows maybe something amazing will come from it!

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Are you joining Nanowrimo.

-Till next time!

  1. Yay! I’m participating again in Camp NaNo, though the first time was back in July 2017.
I’m planning on expanding a little bit my current WIP and probably reach a total of 90k words. Will see…
    Have fun camping, dearie!

    1. Good luck to you too Ms V … I’m excited for you!
I did NaNoWriMo last November and got to about 18,000 of my aimed for fifty but that created the base for the WIP I now work on daily! I’m up to about 22,000 which is shockingly slow! (But guess how many words I’ve typed across two hundred posts on my blog just in 2018? Over 40,000!!!!! So it’s not like I CANT type is it? 🙈🙄🤣🤣)

      1. It’s super interesting to see how much we can type for our blogs vs. for our novels. For me I get into my own head and fear takes over that what I’m writing for my novel isn’t or could never be good enough, I’m trying to get over it as much as possible.

        1. I’m seriously the same. I’m thinking about it daily, yet I’m stuck. Don’t know which way to take it. Presently it’s dark tones or rewrite some of it and go lighter and fluffier altogether 🙈

          1. Sometimes finding the best way to tell the story we want to tell is difficult, but the best way is to write it as the story you would want to read. Which version of it that would make you as a reader read the book so fast and never want to put it down.

    1. Time can be a difficult factor as well. But the good thing about camp Nano is you can set your own goal if it be 50k or 10k so it’s up to you to set your own schedule if you want to do a little writing during the Month.

  2. I decided to sign up for Camp NaNo for the first time this year! I’m so excited. My main goal is to make some significant progress on my 2012 NaNoWriMo endeavor / attempt. I’m currently at 11,216 words. Ideally, I’d like to reach 25,000 words by the end of camp. I’m definitely motivated!

  3. Congrats!! I nanoed once, failed miserably, and got super sick so I’m probably not gonna do that again anytime soon, lol, but I find people who do amazing. Good luck!

  4. Camp NaNo for me again too! Though, I decided just now to join – I was reluctant because I know that April is going to be an extremely busy month for me. :/ But I set a goal of 10 000 words, so it should be fairly easy. Good luck with your story! Hope you have fun writing it 🙂

  5. I am doing Camp this month. I have not completed a NaNo in awhile and this month is not shaping up any better. I have 2,000 words on an urban fantasy retelling of Aladdin and the Lion King…and I am stuck. Then I have a romance novel based off a country song I couldn’t get out of my head this week. Hope you are faring better!

    1. My goal for the month is 25,000 words but right now I’m stuck at 5695 if I do over 1,500 words everyday, I should be able to get back on track. So for now I’m going to work on dedicating myself to it. I hope that you can figure out your story!
